English homework this week is to research “The story of Gelert”.

The children have until February 22nd to complete their research as they will then use their research to help them re-write their chosen story for our Eisteddfod competition.

For this year’s Eisteddfod we will be holding a “Chairing” ceremony for the best storywriter.  The children will be writing the stories as part of their English lessons, therefore THEY SHOULD NOT WRITE THE STORY OUT AT HOME!  All they have to do is find our about the plot, the characters, the setting etc and then compile this as a mind map, picture montage, scrap book etc – any way they choose to display the information they need for writing their version of the story.

The story is available to read on the internet but we also have copies of it in school for children who do not have access to the internet.  You should also find copies in your local library.

Good luck with your research and we look forward to seeing all of the different ways you choose to present your findings. :)

Thanks Harry for letting me know the blog was broken – we were already on the case but couldn’t fix it – we needed people cleverer than us to fix it (I know it doesn’t seem possible that there are people more clever than us but it’s true!). Anyway, it’s fixed now. :)

Miss Price :)

Thanks to all the people who commented about DT week – I’m glad you had a fabulous time and I think we’ll definitely have to do it again!

Unfortunately, because of the snow, I won’t be seeing you now until after I come back from skiing so in answer to your question Hoshi, I had lots of lovely things for Christmas.  I had some wonderful homemade rocky road bites and fudge from my class and lots of smellies which I am taking skiing.  I also had some ski socks, a scarf, a cow hat(!), some pjs and various other bits and bobs.

I hope you enjoyed the snow, I don’t recall any Year 4s entering my snowman competition.. Tut tut tut :)

Anyway, be good for Mrs Pritchard whilst I’m away. :)   See you soon!

Miss Price.

Croeso yn ol – Welcome back!
We hope you have all had a lovely Christmas holiday and are ready for lots of hard work this term. In History we are going to be finding out about the differences between the lives of rich and poor people in Tudor times, and in English we will be sharing a historical novel and then writing our own Tudor stories.

Thanks for your comments re DT week – I’m glad you enjoyed yourselves Harry and Ewan!

Miss Price

Hello Year 4!

I hope you’re all having a fantastic time this week with your paper engineering! :)   I know you’ve enjoyed making things pop up, spin, bounce etc and your cards and books are going to look gorgeous.  I look forward to seeing the final designs!

I’ll try my best to put some photos on the blog site so keep your eyes peeled for them.

Enjoy the rest of the week and make sure you pop a message on here to tell us what you think!

See you tomorrow. :)

Miss Price.

Thanks for bringing in your money for the Under Tree Schools charity today. I hope you all enjoyed the afternoon.

This week we would like you all to work really hard on practising the 2, 3, 4 and 5 times tables.  You need to fill in the answers  beneath each grid and then find each statement in the grid, just like a weordsearch!  There is also a colouring activity based on the 3 times table, where you colour the multiples of three but leave the other sections blank – if you do it correctly a picture will appear!

PS. We will be testing you on these tables next week!

Last year we were very fortunate in Year 4 to have a number of parents (and a grandparent!) who were willing to come in regularly to help in a variety of ways such as listening to readers, assisting with group activities, preparing craft materials, etc.  Unfortunately for us, they have moved to Year 5!

We would like to recruit a new team of helpers so if any of you have the time to spare, we would love to hear from you.  It does not matter if you can’t commit to helping every week, but obviously it does help with our planning of activities if we know that we will have extra help on a particular day.

The children respond positively to having a family member helping in school, and are proud to be able to show off their good work.

If you would like to find out more, please contact us at school.  We look forward to hearing from you!

Following our wonderful trip to Chirk Castle on Tuesday, we would like you to present 4 facts that you found out from the visit.  You can draw pictures, write sentences or both!  You should be able to remember lots about the food eaten in Tudor times, the clothes they wore, the games they played and the way they defended the castle from attack.  Remember that life for the poor people was very different from life for the rich.

Please bring your book back on Monday or Tuesday so that we can share your 4 facts.
